Also, remember it’s important to actually see license numbers and insurance certificates – its not good enough to hear “Oh, yes we have that…”
- Metro License which includes foundation waterproofing and drainage work
- WSIB Account Number and Contact Person
- Liability Insurance Certificate that includes waterproofing coverage (a copy should be readily provided which outlines a policy number and insurer).
- Are they members of the Greater Toronto Home Builders Association or the Better Business Bureau and can they provide verification
- Do they call for “stake-outs” (locating of all utilities; gas, hydro, cable phone etc. as required by law)
- References with valid names and addresses
- Do they provide a full detailed written warranty made available during the estimating phase
- Do they provide a detailed estimate package followed by a full contract with a fair payment schedule
- Are you dealing with a pushy salesperson whose asking you to sign a contract and provide a deposit before they leave
- Do they specialize in waterproofing or are they a drain company or General Contractor that provides a waterproofing service
- Will they use their own crew for the work or do they sub-contract
- Are the jobs supervised or are men just dropped off at the site and left unattended each day without quality control or management
- Do they take photos of the work; before, during and after
- Is a completion time frame provided and is the work completed in consecutive days
- Are they readily available by phone and able to return calls the same day or are you dealing with an answering service
- Are they a franchise selling products provided by an American distributor
- Do they have a website that can provide you with additional information
- How long have they been in the business with the same address and phone number
- Are they using Ontario Building Code recognized products such as the Delta-Ms membrane or poor substitutes
